William “Dee” De Forest Maness

William “Dee” De Forest Maness, age 100, passed away Wednesday May 18, 2022. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday May 26, 2022, at Green Hill Cemetery. Dee Maness was born September 12,1921, in Greensboro to the late William and Annie Maness. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He returned to Greensboro and worked for forty years with Bell South. Mr. Maness was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro and a member of the Masonic Order where he had 70 years of service. He was also a member of the Shriner’s Club and the Oasis Oriental Band. Dee is survived by his sister Brenda Overman and his great nephew A.B. Kimbel. He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel “Mim” Maness, his son, Frederic Deforest Maness, and a special friend, Sue Kelly. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children at PO Box 56066 Charlotte NC, 28256. The family would like to thank the staff of AuthoraCare Hospice and the staff of Heritage Greens for all the love and care they gave Mr. Maness.
