McLeansville - Wilbert Jennings Carter, Sr., 90, of McLeansville, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Moses Cone Hospital. There will be a Memorial Service to honor his life and his legacy 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Hines Chapel Church in McLeansville. Wilbert was born on April 7, 1931, in Guilford County to the late George Turner Carter and Mary Little Carter. He greatly enjoyed farming, gardening and hunting. He was a retired general contractor and tobacco farmer. Wilbert was also a volunteer fire fighter with District 13 and achieved many goals in his lifetime including being North Carolina Farmer of the Year in 1963 and the 1966 Outstanding Young Man of America. He was also a very active lifelong member of Hines Chapel Church in McLeansville. He loved his family very much and they, in turn, adored him. He is predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of more than 72 years, Betty Jo Carter, and daughter Diane Carter Mussu. His survivors include sons, Wilbert “Buster” Carter, Jr. (Connie) and Ricky Carter (Brenda); 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The Family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Moses Cone Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Authoracare and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Ave., in Greensboro. Forbis and Dick North Street is assisting the Carter family.
