Shirley Ann Kennedy Hodgson

November 29, 1943 - March 30, 2022

Shirley Ann Kennedy Hodgson, 78, went home to heaven March 30, 2022, at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Stokesdale to the late Rubert and Virginia Nelson Kennedy. She married her husband Walter (Johnny) Hodgson on October 25, 1958, then traveled abroad as a military wife while raising 3 girls. They lived in Germany and the family lived off post and helped at a winery preparing grapes. They lived in many countries and states exposing them to many cultures and traditions. Hawaii was her favorite destination. Shirley gave her heart to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ many years ago while attending Stokesdale Baptist Church. She was a housewife and babysitter to many children over the years. She also worked in several textile mills around the country. She was known as “Mom, Granny, Nannygrunt, Grandma, and Mimi”. Most importantly known as “Wife”. In addition to her father Rubert, she was preceded in death by mother Virginia N. Simpson; stepfather Hoover Simpson; sister Barbara Kennedy. She is survived by her husband Walter J. Hodgson of the home, daughters; Deborah Sexton (Vernon) , Patty Anderson ( Aaron), Donna Sorrell (Lonnie); 7 grandchildren; Nicky Sexton (Melissa), Mindy Moore(Chris), Dana Kirkman (Mike), Kimberly Wilson(Bruce), Kacey Hampton (Gray), Brandon Sorrell (Jenna), and Ranson Anderson; 10 great grandchildren; Jenna Moore, Jonathan Moore, Tyler Sexton, Nathan Sexton, Kaleigh Kirkman, Mikey Kirkman, Wesley Wilson, Landry Fletcher, Noah Fletcher, and Connor Sorrell. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday April 2, 2022, at Faith Baptist Tabernacle Stokesdale, NC with Rev. Lonnie Sorrell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Friday at Forbis and Dick Stokesdale Chapel.
