Shirley Yates Austin

Shirley Sue Austin, 75, passed away on May 2, 2022, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael Barret officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gilmore Memorial Park. Mrs. Austin was born on April 16, 1947, in Dyess Arkansas to the late George and Ethel Yates. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree and started her career in education. She later retired from teaching special education in Manila Arkansas. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Austin was proceeded in death by her late husband of 51 years, Kenneth Austin, and her brothers Earnest Yates, Marvin Yates, and Thomas Yates. She is survived by her two sons; Rickey Austin and his wife Annie, and Rev. Jimmy Austin and his wife Amy, and her grandchildren; Gabrielle Reklau and husband Tim, Michelle Austin, Danielle Campbell and husband Zak, Nicole Austin, and Bethany Austin. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
