Mr. Samuel Wayne ‘Sammy’ Angel, 70, passed away at his home in Greensboro on Monday, August 16, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 19 at First Baptist Church of Summerfield with Dr. Kelly Bullard officiating. The family will greet friends in the foyer at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. A native of Guilford County, Sammy was born on September 10, 1950, the son of the late Jasper Samuel and Frances Belton Angel. He was a graduate of NW Guilford High School Class of ’68, a long-time and active member of the First Baptist Church of Summerfield and a proud veteran of the US Navy. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Piedmont Cowboy Church. Sammy was an avid reader with a particular interest in history of the great western US, traveling there on several occasions. His TV favorites included The Rifleman, Gun Smoke, and any westerns. He was retired from the Greensboro Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Stofanik. Surviving are his daughters Sabrina Angel Keen and her husband, Jeff, of Summerfield and Samantha Angel Ogburn and her husband, Bill, of Belhaven, NC; sister Judy Rumley of Greensboro; 2 grandchildren Andrew Keen (Rebecca) and Abigail Keen; great granddaughter Alaina Angel Keen; a special best friend Mary Robbins; the mother of his children Susan Willis Wingo; and a host of good friends.
