S. Roger Collis

August 26, 1938 - April 29, 2022

Mr. S. Roger Collis, 83, passed away at his home on Friday evening, April 29, 2022. The funeral service for Mr. Collis will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at First Baptist Church of Summerfield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Forbis & Dick – Stokesdale, NC. A native of Mitchell County, NC, Roger was born on August 26, 1938, the son of the late Thad Collis and Ruby Washburn Collis. He was a warrior for the Lord, a true man of faith, and an active member of First Baptist Church of Summerfield where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. Roger served honorably in the US Army and retired from The City of Greensboro Fire Department with 31 years’ service. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, boating, and hiking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel B. Collis in 2015; brother Bobby Collis; sisters Elaine Collis, Mary Sue Collis and Betty Jean Stotts. Surviving are children Wayne Collis and his wife, Tina, of Gordonsville, Va., Sharon Torok and her husband, Kenneth, of Sylva, NC, and Randall Collis and his wife, Melissa, of Ruffin; sister Sarah Stump (Charly); brothers Leon Collis (Faye) and Tom Collis (Pat); 5 grandchildren Leslie Hanley (Duke), Melissa Call (Chris), Justin Collis (Rochelle), Cameron Collis, and Carly Collis; great grandchildren Taylor Call, Rebekah Call, Alexis Call, Skylar Hanley, Blake Hanley, and Andy Collis. Roger requested Memorial Donations to the Baptist Children’s Home, 204 Idol Street, Thomasville, NC 27360 in lieu of flowers.
