Rachel Jarrett Stafford, 96, of Greensboro passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Street Chapel. Dr. Don Clement, Pastor of Palm Street Christian Church will be officiating. Internment will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Rachel was born March 25,1925, to Ernest Cicero and Daisy Davis Jarrett. One of 6 children, Rachel was blessed with the full life that comes with having many siblings and cousins to grow up with. She cultivated her love of reading and writing at an early age and had many special memories of watching films at her father’s movie theater. On December 21, 1945, she married the love of her life, Elmer Landis Stafford. They were happily married for 63 years. Rachel took great joy in caring for children. You would never see her smile as big as when she was tending to her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. She held several jobs over her life and was honored for 10 years of service with Sears and Roebuck in 1979. A woman of faith, Rachel was a member of Palm Street Christian Church and took pride in serving the Lord. She always had her bible handy and enjoyed continuing to read and learn through the scriptures and grow closer to God through the love of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her children and their families greatly, always with an open door, games to play, food to share, and visits to have. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Hooker; her son, David Stafford and wife, Sonya; four grandchildren, Jason Askew, Rachel Shepherd and husband, Aaron, Amanda McRell and husband, David, and Benjamin Stafford; two great grandchildren, Carson and Lewis Shepherd; and many nieces and nephews. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Landis Stafford, an infant son, her parents Earnest Cicero and Daisy Jarrett, brothers Ernest C. Jarrett Jr., John Jarrett, and James Jarrett and sisters Edith Leathead and Hazel Earl. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be made through a donation to Palm Street Christian Church 1921 Palm Street Greensboro, NC 27405.
