February 1, 1935 - January 18, 2022
Patricia “Pat” Bobbitt Hussey, beloved wife, mother, and Grand-dee for a joyful 86 years, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022. She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Sherwood “Bud” Hussey, her son, Sean Ray Hussey, her daughter-in-law, Victoria Smith Hussey, and her grandson, Griffin, all of Greensboro, NC. She is preceded in death by her siblings Lewis Bobbitt, Thomas L. Bobbit, and Dorothy Swift and by her lively Yorkie Snickers. There will be a private family funeral for her. A memorial service will be planned at a later date for her many friends and family. Pat was born in Greensboro in 1935 and lived most of her life here aside from the early sixties in the Seaside, Monterey area of California where Bud was stationed at Fort Ord. We fondly remember the endearing laughter and unconditional love she brought to our lives. We will miss her sweet-tooth personality, the kitchen-time with rarely a recipe (especially her “Ooey-gooeys”), and the many “happy hour” spreads bringing a festive note to unwind the day, no matter what the day may have brought. Pat met the love of her life, Buddy, while they both attended Greensboro High School. They married in 1953. In 1966, Bud plunged headfirst into starting his own business, risking their entire, modest life savings at the time. Never one to say, “you can’t”, Pat supported Bud fully, and so Guilford Enterprises Pools was born at the same time as she gave birth to their only child, Sean. For the next 50 years Pat and Bud devoted their lives to the success of the family business----Dad supervising new pool projects and Mom managing the retail store with her Southern-style warmth and grace. As her son I will miss Mom reminding me when it’s time to get a haircut, gently nudging me out of moments of melancholy, and the unconditional mothering that came so naturally for her. I feel fortunate to have enjoyed so many countless lunches as we worked together at the family store, winter vacations in tropical climates and weekend family getaways to the grand Hotel Roanoke. We will all miss seeing her well-coiffed hair, polished nails and elegant smile, a genuine reflection of the bright spirit inside her. She made us all see the world as full of beautiful possibilities, a place where kindness still wins the day, and where happy hour is a precious time to pause, tell a good story and recollect how magical it is just being here with each other. We are grateful to her many caregivers at Remote Health, Hospice of the Piedmont and Home Instead, for her many dear neighbors (especially Dale, Sis and Julie) and most especially Ms. Donna Watson, family friend.
