Nancy Routh Sheppard Sykes

June 13, 1936 - February 27, 2022

Nancy Routh Sheppard Sykes, 85, died Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital following a short illness. A private family graveside service will be held at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro. She was born June 13, 1936 in Greensboro, N.C., the daughter of Hoyd and Clara Routh. She attended Bessember High School, Greensboro, N.C. and UNC-Greensboro. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper. She was a charter member of Community in Christ, Presbyterian Church. In 1952, Nancy married Robert B. Sheppard, and together they had three children. Later in life, Nancy married William B. Sykes and Joseph McGuire, both predeceased her. Nancy was a great cook, enjoyed gardening and adding to her extensive collection of frogs. She was the best mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Sharan Sheppard Kettles of Fernandina Beach, Florida; son, Russell R. Sheppard and wife, Alice of Hendersonville, NC; son Gregory A. Sheppard and wife, Cecily of Chicago, IL; a sister, Dianne Frank and husband, Bob, of Greensboro, NC; a brother, James H. Routh and wife, Patricia Routh of Greensboro, NC; brother Larry M. Routh, Archdale, NC and 4 grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of her life: Dustin Mitchell, Natalee Sheppard, Eden Sheppard and Hazel Sheppard; her honorary granddaughter, Brooke Follo; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Centenary Methodist Church, Greensboro NC with the Rev. Kelley Groce officiating. The family will accept visitors in the church narthex from 2:00 -2:45pm. Following the services, a reception will be held at the home of her sister, Dianne Frank, 5002 Lockhaven Circle, Greensboro, N.C. Forbis and Dick is serving the Sykes Family.
