October 16, 1928 - March 1, 2022
GREENSBORO, NC - Nancy E. Kolls (Aiello), died March 1, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Nancy Kolls (Aiello) was born in Racine, Wisconsin, October 16, 1928 to Salvatore "Sam" and Christine Aiello. She was the daughter of an Italian immigrant father and Danish immigrant mother which shaped her love of family and her wonderful appreciation of life. Nancy was a typical Italian mother who loved her husband, children and grandchildren unconditionally and with all her heart. She always said no one "should cross words with an Italian mother about her children." For Nancy, life was always family first. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, David Kolls. Their marriage is a tremendous love story that started when the two crossed paths at McKinley Junior High School. She was a shy girl but often said "once I saw your father in the hallway I knew he was the one and I have been chasing him ever since." They were a couple through graduation at Washington Park High School in 1947. Two years later, in 1949, they were married at Atonement Luther Church and raised three children Karla Hansen, Les Kolls and Jay Kolls. Where David was quiet and reserved, Nancy never met a conversation she didn't like and often said, "Well, if your father isn't going to say much, I have to make up for it." Nancy worked at Racine Medical Arts Building for decades as an administrative assistant to two physicians. She was, in her own words, "a tomboy" who loved sports and hardly ever missed a game, or event, her children and grandchildren participated in through the years. Nancy loved to make Italian food and her lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs were off the hook. She also did quilt work that many family members and friends still cherish to this day. She also loved the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and Duke University. We never understood the Duke thing, but we forgave her and David for that because we are always grateful they made us "Packer Backers." Eventually, Nancy and David did what all good Sconnies do, they retired "up North" to Door County. Nancy often said her favorite thing in life "is making my husband and family happy." And, that is what she did. She made us all very happy because she gave forever love to family, friends and strangers and that love and devotion runs through those who follow in her wonderful life as she is survived by her three children; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Kolls; her father and mother, Sam and Christine Aiello; her sister, Sally Goldberg and her brothers: Richard Aiello and Royce Aiello. The family has requested memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
