Martha Lou Holton Pearman
April 4, 1929 - January 28, 2022
GREENSBORO - Martha Lou Holton Pearman, 92, died peacefully at her home on January 28, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born to Martin Cicero and Martha Slate Holton on April 4, 1929. She graduated from High Point High School, attended Wake Forest College, and graduated from Baptist School of Nursing. In 1950 she married her sweetheart, Harvey R. Pearman, Jr. and remained by his side until his death in 2019. Martha Lou lived a life of service and took pride in her more than 30-year nursing career at Wesley Long Hospital where she cared for many and even inspired some to become nurses themselves. She was a charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church and active in the international student program through the Piedmont Baptist Association. In opening her home to young people from all over the world, she provided a safe and loving environment where strangers could “shed their strangeness” and become family. While we will miss her dearly, her love, laughter, and kindness are a legacy that will endure in our family for generations to come. She is survived by her four children, Marty Carruthers (Joe), Harvey Pearman III (Lula), Mary Brock (Don), and Molly Rice (Dan), eight grandchildren, Cindy Wilson, Elliott Hundley, Kate Thornton, Martin Hundley, Effie Phillips, Mack Brock, Jimmy Rice, Shelley Smith and 15 great-grandchildren. At her request there will only be a grave-side service held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Gardens. For those unable to attend in person the service can be viewed virtually through Forbis and Dick Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers she requested that donations be made to Urban Ministries of Greensboro, 305 W Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27406. Today, through our tears, we celebrate what she called her “perfect happy life.” Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is serving the Pearman family.
