Lorena Holden Copeland

January 20, 1924 - June 18, 2022

Lorena Holden Copeland, 98 died on June 18,2022. She was a native and resident of Greensboro, and after graduating from Curry High School she attended Woman's College (UNCG) and then worked at the college for two years. She then spent a year working for Marts & Lundy organizing fundraising dinners for the Lawrenceville School for Boys in New Jersey. Returning to Greensboro, she was employed by Burlington Industries for ten years and then resigned to work with her husband Dr. Raymond T. Copeland as office manager at his veterinary clinic Animal Hospital. Lorena was a devoted member of College Place UMC since 1935, serving in many capacities including Trustees Administrative Board, Finance, Staff Parish, Chair of Worship, and delegate to Western NC Conference. She was a member of the Chancel Choir for over 60 years, was active in the United Methodist Women and for many years was Chair of Circle One. As Historian, she served as Chair of the 100th Anniversary celebration and was chosen Lay Person of the year in 2000. She strived to leave her legacy as life documented with her love of God, family, church, and friends. During World War II, Lorena served as President of the Girls Service Organization of the USO and was a Red Cross volunteer serving refreshments to soldiers and organizing social activities. She was also a past Junior Woman of the Year of the Greensboro junior Woman's Club. Lorena was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Ruffin Holden, husband Dr. Raymond T. Copeland, son Russell T. Copeland, sister Elizabeth H. Barnes, and brother John R. Holden. She is survived by her son Ruffin H. Copeland of Charlotte NC, four grandchildren Andrew, Zachary, Morgan, and Madison; daughter-in-law Lisa Copeland, many nieces, and nephews, and with special thanks to long-time friend and CNA Sandra Marshall. There will be an informal memorial service at College Place United Methodist Church 509 Tate St., Greensboro NC at 2:00 PM Saturday June 25, 2022. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the College Place UMC Copeland/Holden Endowment Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences at www.forbisanddick.com.
