Kenneth Marley Sumner Jr., age 68, passed away June 8, 2022. He is Joyfully greeting his Lord and loved ones in heaven at this time thanks to his salvation. Ken graduated from Smith High School in 1972 and went on to work for the Greensboro Police Department where he retired as a Sergeant after 30 years of service. Ken also earned the Life Saving Award from the Greensboro Police Department. He also worked with Earl Davidson at Davidson Auto Sales which later became GENUWINE Auto Sales under Ken’s ownership. He was always thinking of others and formed his own Meals on Wheels program which he funded. He had a passion for cars and loved spending time with his family at Holden Beach. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kay Dillard Sumner, sons Christopher Sumner (Janet), and Matthew Sumner (Michele Meade), and grandchildren Kaitlyn Sumner, Jacob Sumner, and Lucas Haynes, who all lovingly called him “Grumps”. He is also survived by his brothers Chuck Sumner, and Danny Sumner (Jennifer). Ken was preceded in death by his infant sister Denise Sumner, parents Kenneth and Gretchen Sumner, and grandparents Claude and Magdalene Sumner and Oscar and Mattie Rierson. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday June 12, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Summerfield with Pastor Derrick Moody officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Saturday June 11th at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Chapel.
