Julian Herbert "Herb" Hussey Jul 26, 1928 - Jul 2, 2022 Mr. Herb Hussey peacefully passed away in hospice at Beacon Place on July 2, 2022, just weeks short of his 94th birthday. Herb was a native and life long resident of Greensboro. His parents came to Greensboro to work at Cone Mills and he was born at home in Cone Mill Village on July 26, 1928. He always shared fond memories of growing up in the neighborhood. He graduated from Rankin High School (Class of 1946). Herb proudly served in the Army during the Korean War and helped manage the Officers' Club while stationed in Germany. After returning to the states, he worked full time at National Cash Register while attending college at night. Night school took a while, but he graduated from and was a proud alumnus of Guilford College (Class of 1963). Herb became a Certified Public Accountant and was a long term employee/officer of Industrial Electric. After taking early retirement, he continued as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant for another 35+ years. He was a long time member of Westover Church in Greensboro. Herb loved tennis. He was a fixture on the neighborhood courts at Lawndale Pool for years. Many fond memories were made at the family lakehouse on Lake Tillery, and before that, on family trips to Badin Lake and Sunset Beach. His other passions were music, dance and travel. Herb squaredanced with the Tanglefoots for many years. Later on he branched out to ballroom dancing. He just loved a good tune to get up and move around to. His license plate said "MADETOGO" and that was the truth! Herb especially enjoyed traveling to Hilton Head SC every year to play a week of doubles tennis with his many pals. After retirement, he loved competing in both the local and State level Senior Games and brought home medals in every category he participated in. Herb was extremely proud of his family and they were the source of his pride and joy. He married Betty Lou Waldrop and had four daughters - Darlene, Patricia, Gaynell and Bonnie Lou. He later married Lellian "Robin" Robinson and had a son, Lee. There were a lot of kids and grandkids, but he made it a point to be at every family event he could, no matter the distance. He will be greatly missed. Herb is survived by four children, Darlene Conner of Asheville, NC; Patricia Cubbage of Stokesdale, NC; Gaynell Martin (Bret) of Waxhaw, NC and Lee Hussey (Michele) of Belews Creek, NC. He is also survived by (9) grandchildren, eleven (11) great-grandchildren and a special friend, Faye Strickland. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Lou Philips; his parents, Thomas Harrison and Zonie Hobbs Hussey; and his sister and only sibling, Rachel Sutton. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Forbis and Dick, N Elm Street Chapel. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Lakeview Memorial Park.
