Joyce Lee Hunter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joyce Lee Hunter, age 86, died at her home in Greensboro, NC on December 2, 2021. Joyce is survived by her brother, Mack Atkinson of Cheraw, SC (Ann), niece Hope Byles (Michael) of High Point, NC, nephew Ed Atkinson (Dawn) of Hillsborough, NC, and niece Ruth Sappenfield (Gary) of Greensboro, NC, as well as many much loved cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, friends and caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell G. Atkinson, and her husband of 51 years, Neal Hunter. Joyce loved to travel and visited numerous places during her life. She and Neal lived in six states during their marriage. Joyce was active with the United Way for several years and received many accolades for her service. She loved to shop, and got much joy from finding the perfect gift for the many people in her life. She particularly loved to spoil the children in her life, and was always expanding her circle of love to include more people into her family. The family wants to the thank Joyce’s caregivers, whose support made it possible for her to spend her final years in her home. Unending gratitude, particularly, to Rhonda Cheek, whose amazing dedication kept all of the boats afloat and upright, who treated us all as family, and who quickly became indispensable and a permanent member of our family. Her tireless effort and incredible love allowed Joyce to have the ending she wanted, she is an amazing blessing for us all.
