Jane Gardner Coon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jane Gardner Coon, 83, died at Beacon Place Hospice Center on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She was born July 8, 1939, in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Thomas Wallis and Mary Cochran Gardner. She is preceded in death by her brother Lewyn Gardner and her oldest son Kevin Coon. Jane graduated from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC in 1957 and immediately went to work at Western Electric Company as a secretary/clerk; she later worked as a legal secretary for a local law firm. She married in 1961 and shortly thereafter she and her husband went on a 10-year work/travel adventure across the USA. They returned to Greensboro in 1970 and have lived here since. She made friends everywhere she went and maintained long-distance correspondence with many of them until her death. Her youthful passions were beach music and shag dancing. As an adult she took up tennis and bowling and was good at both. In her later years she enjoyed spending time at the beach, travel, and camping. She was always an excellent cook and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes. Jane is survived by her sister Judy Brown of Pearisburg VA, her husband of 61 years, William (Bill) Coon and her son Keith Coon. She has two granddaughters, Sadie, and Elena. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 30 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 5926 W. Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC.
