Ina Lou Bradley Jolly

August 22, 1932 - February 5, 2022

Lou Bradley Jolly passed away at the age of 89 on February 5, 2022, after a lengthy stay at Blumenthal Nursing and Rehab. It was a day of celebration and homecoming for her as she entered Heaven and joined her Lord and Savior, her beloved husband and many deceased family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 7, 20220 at Brown Summit United Methodist Church. Lou was born on August 22, 1932, the youngest child of Vester Cleophus and Ina Woodward Bradley, and grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended Curry School and later earned a B.A. and Masters in the fields of Elementary Education and Reading from Women’s College and UNC-G. She began her teaching career in the first grade at Brooks Elementary in Greensboro. She later taught in Florida and in Cortland, New York. She also was an elementary school principal in Elizabeth City, N.C. and the Reading Supervisor for Yadkin County in North Carolina. She ended her career in Madison, North Carolina. There she met her husband to be, John Jolly. About the time of their marriage John finished Divinity School and was ordained a Methodist minister. Lou retired from teaching and helped John in many ways as a minister’s wife. They served faithfully at many churched, including Brown Summit, Proximity, Friendship, Bessemer, and Mt. Pleasant. Lou and John did not have children, having married later in life, but a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews are left to miss her. These include her nieces Margaret Raines (John) and Maureen Williams (David); grand nieces and nephews Maura Roberts (Patrick), Lynne Hodge (Will), Alyson Williams, Meganne Gould (Jason), Janice Greer (Robbie), Evan Raines and Jared Gunn. Her great grand nieces and nephews were especially important to her and blessed her in many ways. These include Katelyn, Benjamin, Frances, David, Andrew, and Timothy Roberts, Raina and Sophy Gould; Thomas and Jonathan Hodge; Hattie Sherman (Sam); and Zach, Jackson, Ethan and Olivia Greer. Lou was always happiest when surrounded by the large extended family especially on birthdays and holidays. The extended family will miss her love and generosity. Lou loved her many canine companions, most recently her dog Short Sugar. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with the many friends she met over the years. Her friends and family will remember her being an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels, an enthusiastic shopper for gifts for everyone, and always being well-dressed and looking her best. Those wishing to remember Lou in a monetary way can make donations to the Brown Summit Methodist Church or to Authoracare Hospice who assisted Lou in the last several months of her life.
