GREENSBORO - George Howard Strickland passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2022, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 11am in the cemetery of Buffalo Presbyterian Church with military honors performed by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born on August 10th, 1924, in Guilford County to George and Freda Strickland, George Howard was the last surviving of all siblings, Floyd Strickland, Roy Strickland, Clarence Strickland, Elizabeth Hughes, John Strickland, and Alene Helms. George will be laid to rest beside his late wife Henrietta Clapp Strickland. George lived a very blessed 97 years as a man of God, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, dedicated worker, and World War II hero. He served in the US Army as a Medic for four years in both the European theatre as well as in North Africa. He received a good conduct medal, victory metal, and a European – African – Middle Eastern campaign medal for his service. George was a retired welder from Carolina Steel and longtime member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church. He loved taking trips to the Outer Banks, golfing, and spending time with his family. George is survived by his daughter Frieda Reena Strickland and husband Thomas Oakley, as well as his three grandchildren Caitlin, Clayton, and Casey Long. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity, 3826 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407 or the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is serving the Strickland family.
