Edgar Alfred Mack Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Edgar Alfred Mack (98) of Greensboro died peacefully on December 3, 2021. Ed was born in Morristown, NJ and moved to Greensboro in 1978. Ed and is wife Marjorie were married for 68 years before her passing in 2017. They were both members of the Faith Presbyterian Church where Ed added his strong baritone voice to the choir. Throughout his life Ed gave generously of his talents to the life of the churches he attended. Ed is survived by his son Douglas of Greensboro, and Stanley and his wife Leslie of Madison, NJ. Ed (PopPop) has three grandchildren: Lindsay and her husband Steve, Stephen and his wife Kaili, and Jaxson. Ed also enjoyed 4 great grandchildren. Ed was a successful financial manager and treasurer for several companies before settling in Greensboro to start his custom tool shop that he owned until he retired in 1992. He always liked working with his hands and woodworking, a love he passed on to his son Doug. Ed was also an investor and enjoyed investing in stocks and other financial instruments. Ed was very proud of his service in the Navy during WWII aboard the destroyer Gillespie DD609 in the Atlantic and Pacific, seeing action in many large naval battles including Iwo Jima, the Philippines, Leyte, and Okinawa. He was aboard the ship that carried the terms of surrender to Admiral Nimitz and the first naval battle vessel to enter Tokyo Harbor following the surrender. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 6309 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Faith Presbyterian Church. Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is serving the family.
