Duke Lee Nelson

February 20, 1957 - January 26, 2022

Mr. Duke Lee Nelson, 64, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Rockingham County, Duke was born on February 20, 1957, son of the late Dewey Lee Nelson and Laverne Richardson Nelson. Following high school he joined the Army and served faithfully and honorably. He then went on to a career as a chemical operator with various companies, most recently Sherwin-Williams. Duke enjoyed deer hunting and was known as a kind, helpful fellow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Nelson and sister Wendy Hailey. On March 17, 1987, he married Kathy Vernon. Surviving are his wife, Kathy, of the home; brother Jackie Nelson of Salisbury; sisters Tonya Golonka and Carmen Kelly Beasley, both of Myrtle Beach. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Forbis & Dick – Stokesdale is serving the family.
