Colene Mary Cook Gardner

November 8, 1934 - April 26, 2022

With a heavy heart, we announce Coleen Mary Cook Gardner passed away Tuesday April 26, 2022. She was born November 8, 1934, in Concord, NC to Reverend Earl A. Cook and Josephine Melton Cook. She was committed to her Christian faith early in life where she grew up in a family that served the Lord. Her father was a minister in the Methodist church. She graduated from Landis High School and then attended High Point University where she earned a Bachelor of Education. She began teaching at Alamance School and after her first year married her college sweetheart, Brice E. Gardner whom she was married to for 63 years. She taught middle school at Summerfield and Guilford until she retired. She served for many years in Mount Pisgah United Methodist Women’s Circle whose mission was to reach out to help those in the community. She loved to bake, cook, sew, crochet, and spend time with her family and friends. She had a desire to continue her love for learning as she took classes in computer, cooking, crocheting, and basket weaving in her 80s. She was a wonderful seamstress and she also loved to travel and visited many countries with Brice and a group of close friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who always was there to offer a smile and a helping hand. She will be dearly missed by her family who are forever grateful for her influence, guidance, and inspiration throughout their lives. She is preceded in death by her father, Reverend Earl A. Cook, Mother, Josephine Melton Cook, husband Brice E. Gardner and sister Loma. She is survived by daughter Donna Callcott (Frank), son Alex Gardner (Irene) and grandchildren, Trent, Lauren, Lea Callcott, Gabby Ketrow (Carson) Ernesto Gomez and great grandchildren, Sophia and Benjamin Ketrow and brother, Reverend. Earl Cook, Jr. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel Saturday April 30th, 2022. Mrs. Gardner’s service with be held on Sunday, May 1st at 2:00 PM at Forbis and Dick Chapel with the Dr. Reverend Jeff Johnsen officiating. Entombment will be held on Monday, May 2nd at Westminster Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.
