November 12, 1937 - March 30, 2022
After a courageous 14 year battle with cancer, Cherie Ann Dantonio passed away on March 30, 2022 in her home in Greensboro, North Carolina, surrounded by her husband, two children, and great niece. Born in Western Pennsylvania, Cherie was the youngest of three girls. She met her husband Peter Dantonio after high school. They would have been married for 66 years this June. Together, they lived in many places, eventually settling in the DC area and then Greensboro. Along their journey, they had two children, Anthony Dantonio of Nashville, TN, and Beth Dantonio of Greensboro. Cherie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She and Pete were extensive travelers, with Alaska and Italy being at the top of their favorite destinations. She was an excellent cook, the most gracious host, a reader, and a card player. She loved the beach, and she loved dogs. At one point, there were fourteen dogs in the house and she personally handfed one of puppies around the clock to ensure he survived. Cherie also loved her faith and her church. She volunteered at Saint Paul the Apostle’s office, and she also volunteered at the Prayer Center. Cherie and Peter were active members of Greensboro’s Italian-American club for many years, and this is where they met many of their closest and beloved friends. They had many good times and fantastic trips with their friends. Above all, Cherie loved her family. Nothing made her happier than when the entire family was together. Cherie was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Nellie Williams, her two sisters, Doris Webster and Betty Proctor, and her beloved Carin Terrier, Maggie May. Cherie is survived by her husband Peter, son Anthony Dantonio and wife Stacy, daughter Beth Dantonio, grandsons Nicholas Dantonio and his partner Ryan Huckabee, Reid Dantonio, Max Harper, and Sam Harper, granddaughter Tess Gottschalk and her husband Garrett, great-granddaughter Lila Gottschalk, great-grandson Cooper Gottschalk, and many nieces and nephews. Also, step-grandchildren, Stephrn Nutter and wife Andrea, children Maks and Ashely Evealyn, Tyler Nutter, Hailey Nutter, and Chloe Nutter. Visitation will be held at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, 1118 N. Elm, Greensboro, on Tuesday, April 5th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Paul the Apostle, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road, on Wednesday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m.
