Charles Warren Duncan Sr.

August 30, 1940 - January 27, 2022

LEXINGTON—Mr. Charles Warren Duncan, Sr., 81, of Jenkins Road, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his home. He was born on August 30, 1940, in Columbus County, to the late Luther and Hannah Stalvey Duncan. For many years, Charles owned and operated Red Bird Cab Company and also had many contracts in transportation with the railroad, state, and county. His passion was selling produce and did so in many locations in Lexington, with the last several years located at the Yadkin River bridge on Highway 64. Charles was full of life, loved being on the go, and never met a stranger. He was witty and quite the salesman, frequently able to up-sale his customers, and enjoyed making a dollar. He loved NASCAR, especially Richard Petty, auctions, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Elizabeth “Liz” Koontz Duncan; his siblings, Geneva Cannon, Ivey Duncan, Berris J. Duncan, Ila Rhodes, Juanita Strickland, and Alice Duncan; a grandson, Matthew Craver; and his beloved poodle, Tiny. Survivors include his children, Charles Warren Duncan, Jr. (Rhea) and Geana Duncan Craver (Brian), all of Lexington; and grandchildren, Heather Hammond (Chris Grey) and Josh Craver (Ashley Coggins); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 31, in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Rev. Clyde Akers officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
