Barbara "Barbie" Harris Kremer

June 16, 1966 - April 8, 2021

You know the saying, “Live, Laugh, Love!” If you knew Barbie, then you also know what that saying looks like when fully embraced in life. Barbie (Barbara Harris Kremer) not only lived, laughed, and loved herself, but she taught many others to do the same. She will be remembered for living her Christian values as a servant and volunteer, especially through her commitment to youth and children ministries at West Market Church. She will be cherished for laughing so often with her friends, even through some of the bumpiest patches of life. And she will be appreciated for loving her family deeply, especially her sons Jake (Jacob Harris Kremer) and Ben (Benjamin James Kremer). Barbie’s greatest joy was spending time with her boys, especially watching Jake perform with his band and playing golf with Ben. Barbie’s devotion to her boys was inspired by her own experiences growing up in Delaware as the only child of Charles “Chuck” Harris and Janet “Jan” Lane Harris. When family wasn’t around, Barbie surrounded herself with friends, whether visiting them in Delaware or drawing them to her locally with a simple text saying, “the deck is open.” Barbie’s energetic nature prevented her from being idle (even through her bout with breast cancer). So, when she wasn’t living, laughing and loving with family or friends, Barbie was serving others or working. When her boys were young, Barbie served as a leader in children’s missions at West Market Church. Later, her focus shifted to leading small groups of teens, Financial Peace University, and Bible Study Fellowship, becoming a mentor to many. Recently, she was able to combine her passion for youth and her love of golf by becoming the head coach for Grimsley High School’s girls golf team. Barbie graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology and an MA in Technical and Professional Communications. This background led to her initial career as a technical writer. At the time of her passing, Barbie was employed by Noregon Systems as a Senior Process Analyst, using not just her writing experience, but her skills as a communicator and coach. She had also recently started her own business, Kremer Financial Coaching, working evenings and weekends to guide her clients to “financial peace.” Barbie was taken from us prematurely on April 8, 2021, at the age of 54, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident while visiting friends in Wilmington, NC. She is survived by her sons Jake and Ben, her parents Chuck and Jan, her uncle, William B. Harris and wife Gloria of Cincinnati, her aunt Phyllis B. Harris of Hendersonville, and several cousins. Barbie’s family will receive visitors at Forbis and Dick, 1118 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, on Friday, April 16, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at West Market Street United Methodist Church, 302 W. Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27401 on Saturday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. Covid safety practices, including wearing masks and appropriate safe distancing, will be required for all those in attendance. The service will also be live streamed through the church’s facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/wmsumc In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Barbie’s honor to one of the organizations that meant much to her during her life: West Market Street UMC Family Ministry, Cone Health Cancer Center for the Alight Program, or Fellowship Hall, Inc.
