Mr. Gray Poindexter BowmanBOWMANWALNUT COVE – Mr. Gray Poindexter Bowman, 80, died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at his home. He was born in Stokes County, on September 11, 1929 to Broadus Poindexter and Dovie Nelson Bowman. Mr. Bowman served his country proudly in the US Army. Gray was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board for 15 years and the Usher Board for 24 years. He was employed by Swift Meats for 32 years and currently owned his owned Bowman’s Greenhouses. He had a passion for growing tomatoes that everyone loved. He loved his tractors. A 2:00 pm funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with military honors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Wendell Bowman and James Barlow Bowman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Florence McGee Bowman of the home, 1 daughter: Lisa B. Brim and husband Richard of Walnut Cove, 2 grandsons; Brandon Brim and wife Brittany and Dustin Brim and Elizabeth, 5 sisters; Diane Southern and husband Joe, Vickie Shore and husband Mark, both of Walnut Cove, Jeanette Neal and husband Harvey of Walkertown, Connie K, Ring and husband Jessie of Winston-Salem, Nelda Goodman and husband Bud of Valdese, 1 brother; Porter R. Bowman and wife Betty of Walnut Cove, sisters-in-law; Iva Jean Bowman and Nancy Bowman both of Walnut Cove and Virginia Woods of Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home.
