Mrs. Ann Moore HinshawMrs. Anna Laura “Ann” Moore Hinshaw, 90, of Friends Home in Guilford College, passed away Friday, July 23rd in the skilled care unit of Friends Home West.A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Friday, August 13th at West Market Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Ellison presiding. Mrs. Hinshaw was born the second child of George Ernest and Anna Mary Cox Moore on November 18, 1919 near Liberty, NC. After graduating from Appalachian State, she taught briefly in eastern North Carolina before marrying V.M. “Jim” Hinshaw in September 1947. They lived briefly in Burlington (1958-1966) before settling in Greensboro. Ann taught first grade most of her working life. With her experience in and commitment to individualized education, Ann was elected to membership in Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a dedicated member of West Market Street United Methodist Church and the Morris Sunday School Class. Ann actively volunteered there, as well as fully participating in the life of Friends Home Guilford including weekly bridge games. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, C. Arnold Moore and sister, Mabel Moore Bray. Survivors include her sons David M. Hinshaw and wife Emily of Greensboro, who cared for her in her later years, and James E. “Jim” Hinshaw of Atlanta, GA; brothers Joe Moore of Ramseur, NC and Tom Moore of Liberty, NC; grandsons Mark Andrew Hinshaw of Greensboro and Michael David Hinshaw and great granddaughter Jasmine Hinshaw of Helena, MT. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the United Methodist Women at West Market Street UMC, or to the church itself, 302 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401 or to Friends Home, 925 New Garden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410, or to any of the many charities and causes that Ann was known to support.
