Mr. John Speight Sanford Jr.

SANFORD
MOCKSVILLE – John Speight Sanford, Jr., 57, of Mocksville and Roanoke, Va., died July 19, 2010, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital from complications following injuries received in a traffic accident. He was the son of John Speight “Jack” and Jayne Stacey Sanford of Mocksville, who preceded him in death. Mr. Sanford was born August 4, 1952, in Forsyth County and attended Mocksville Elementary School 1958-1966. He graduated from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va., where he was a member of the marching band, the drum corps, and the prestigious Hudgins Rifles Team. He attended Auburn University and remained a fan of Auburn Tigers football all his life. For several years he was a manufacturer’s representative for Sanford Brothers, a company founded by his grandfather, John C. Sanford and his brothers in Mocksville in the early 1900s. Mr. Sanford was an accomplished musician and will be remembered for his musical talent, his flashing smile, and irreverent sense of humor. He loved life and most of all, his children. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanford was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Caitlyn Jayne Sanford. Surviving to honor his memory are a son, John S. “Cord” Sanford, III of Myrtle Beach; daughters, Britt Sanford Adams of Spencer and Peyton Brooke Sanford of Winston-Salem; sisters, Judith Sanford Bryant of Huntsville, Ala, and Margaret “Peggy” Sanford Parker and husband, Dr. Peter E. Parker of Winston-Salem; nephews, John S. Bryant and wife, Kimberly of Hendersonville, Tenn., William S. Bryant and wife, Paula of Huntsville, Ala, J. Patrick Stacey and wife, Amy of Gainesville, Ga, and Christopher T. Parker and wife, Riley of Winston-Salem; and his life-long friend, Debra Luckado of Roanoke, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, July 24, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Doug Couch officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Humane Society, for the care of abused or abandoned animals or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
