Mrs. Dorothy Johnson Block

Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Johnson Block, age 90, of 6504 Portrait Drive, NC, died peacefully on July 16, 2010 at 1:00 AM at her residence.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street. There will be a funeral service at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church at 11:00AM on Friday, July 23, 2010. On Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM a graveside service will be held for Mrs. Block at Temple Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mrs. Block was born on December 15, 1919, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Thomas Hiriam and Ethel Hoop Johnson. She was educated in the Louisville Public Schools and graduated from Atherton Girls High School in 1937. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Block was a member of Starmount Forest Country Club, the Niners Golf Group, the Ingleside Garden Club and various bridge clubs. She was past Vice-President and Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina. Mrs. Block was a member of the Nutley Chapter #121 of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey, and a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Block enjoyed bridge, golf and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, M.S. “Chip” Block of the home; daughters Mrs. Carol Block McNinch (Dale) of Andover, Ohio and Mrs. Barbara Block Stack of Greensboro; four grandchildren Deborah Lynne McNinch, Esq. and Elizabeth Anne McNinch both of Columbus, Ohio; Dr. Kimberly Hamm Sheets (Steve) of Jamestown and Erich Sabel Hamm (Denise) of High Point, NC and three great grandchildren, Laura and Sarah Sheets and Alex Hamm. Mrs. Block was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Lillian J. Kannapel of Louisville, Ky.
