Mary Stuart Hackman MillerMILLERWALNUT COVE – Mary Stuart Hackman Miller, 82, died Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 after a brief illness at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melody Ann Miller and her spouse of over 60 years, Donald LeRoy Miller. She is survived by 2 children, Donald George Millerand wife Lisa and Kim Stuart Zwigart; 7 grandchildren, Katherine Brown, Vanessa Haythorn, Loretta Woodlief, Larry Zwigart, Betsy Miller, Kyle Miller and Lauren Miller; 4 great grandchildren, Meredith Dover, Audry Brown, Nora Brown and Sebastian David Brown. Mary was was one of 9 children and is survived by 1 brother and 4 sisters from the Wind Gap, PA area. Her husband, Donald L. Miller was superintendent of Smithtown Central School District for 14 years. They resided in Smithtown, Long Island area for 16 years. They also lived in Belmont, Vermont for 42 years. Don was president of the Ludlow Lions Club in Ludlow, VT. Mary had worked retail on Long Island and was an assistant buyer for the retail business of Abraham & Strauss. She was also a Volunteer Librarian in the Belmont Elementary School and enjoyed sewing and crafting with the local ladies guild. Both Don and Mary were originally from Eastern PA where the met early in life. They lived as a productive, happy couple for the remainder of their lives. There will be a family gathering from 2-4 pm, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove. Online condolences may be offered at www.burroughsfuneralhome.com.
